This is a soundtrack of the movie The Mission. I know nothing about this movie and I am resisting the urge to look it up on the Internet. All I know is that it was directed by Rolland Joffe and stars Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons.
The cover of the album, and I assume the poster for the movie, depict a man, tied to a cross, going over a waterfall.
Intense.
Yes.
So is the music.
This ain’t spaghetti western music. No heroic themes or mysterious interludes. There is some quasi-religious themed passages but nothing that really grabs you.
And the problem is that all the musical bits are short and never have time to develop. The longest one is 4:25 and most clock in at about two minutes.
That’s fine for some intense punk dirges but I really want to hear the music develop… into something.
